What the heck is going on EPN!
December 8, 2009
You know, as a system administrator it’s important to design and architect solutions with redundancy built in. This includes production fail over for Tier 1 applications, which in my opinion, includes the tracking software for clicks that EPN uses to track affiliate earnings and clicks. Well, announced tonight, it’s apparent that eBay as a company has not found this to be the case. Perhaps they need some qualified solutions architects.
Hi everybody,
Earnings will be posting a bit late today. A hardware equipment issue at our tracking partner yesterday, Monday Dec 7th, caused us to miss some clicks and their associated transactions intermittently throughout the day. The issue affected all programs on eBay Partner Network globally including Half.com. It was corrected and went back to normal yesterday evening.
We’re still doing some analysis, but we estimate that about ~20% of clicks were affected yesterday. As a result, your clicks and earnings numbers may look a little low for yesterday, and some transactions may be missing from the transaction download report.
This event is unrelated to the Nov 20th site search issue. We will be activating a feature within the Quality Click Pricing system that will ensure this issue does not affect your earnings in the subsequent days (like we did for Nov 20th). We’ll be calculating a makegood to account for this.
We will send an e-mail to all publishers with more information on this tomorrow, but wanted to make sure to give anybody looking at their metrics this evening a heads up.
Will
I’m starting to lose a bit of faith in this program now. With the decrease in earnings per click for this month, which in my opinion is all directly related to the November 21st issue, and now this. With the last issue I saw my QPC score go from .32 to .16. I’ll be curious to see if my new earnings go from .16 to .08.
I find this part troubling though:

I thought the program was controlled in house? Who is this “tracking partner”? I think these are bigger questions that need to be asked on the EPN discussion board.

I was thinking the same thing! Although I was not so surprised to see them say about the tracking partner. I had a hunch all along that it was not completely in house. I picked up on something once before in the forum. Actually I think somewhere in there the name of the traking partner is posted. I almost want to think it is the same people that did it for CJ when they managed it.
Having said that… my QPC score is up this month by 50% over last month… So I am loving EPN at the moment.
Ask me in a few weeks and I moght be hating it.
It is very much a love hate relationship I think…
